After performing on stage at LSU, Bernd moved to Los Angeles to study with the proteges of Roy London, namely Ivana Chubbuck, Eriq La Salle & Alice Carter.

On the advisal of Mrs. Chubbuck, he furthered his education in two ways. One, he worked and studied with two improvisation companies, the Groundlings and Acme Troupes. Two, he partnered up with LA Film School to make the short film “Rouge,” which he wrote, directed and acted in.

Mrs. Carter taught him how to streamline his acting skills and learned more about the production side. Twice a year the studio held it’s Cannonball Film Festival. It was festival where groups of five students got 36 hours to create a short film. All five participated. One wrote, one directed, one edited and the other two produced. After a few years of this each actor had made at least six short films.

When Bernd left the studio, he worked with Dana Koellner’s People’s Theater where he acted in mixed media live action horror plays, like Director’s Cut, and classics, like Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.

These past years his creative outlet has solely been Baltimore based. He helped found Gunpowder Repertory Theatre, where he has acted in one play, “Art”, produced another and directed a third, “Glengary Glen Ross.” When he has time, he also teaches a scene study class in Towson., where he passes along what he learned from Mrs. Chubbuck and Mrs. Carter
